PBIS

What is PBIS?

PBIS STANDS FOR POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION SYSTEM, AND IT IS THE SCHOOL-WIDE PROGRAM WE USE TO CREATE A SAFER AND MORE EFFECTIVE SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT. BY HAVING PROACTIVE STRATEGIES FOR DEFINING, TEACHING, AND SUPPORTING APPROPRIATE STUDENT BEHAVIORS, WE COLLECTIVELY CREATE A COMMON LANGUAGE AND ESTABLISH A CLEAR SET OF PROCEDURES TO TEACH STUDENTS. WE BELIEVE IT’S EVERYONE’S JOB TO HELP CREATE A POSITIVE SCHOOL CULTURE, AND THROUGH THE USE OF PBIS, WE PREPARE TO ACHIEVE IT.

How does PBIS work at Green Acres?

We have adopted a set of school-wide rules that define our expectations for each of our shared areas. The behaviors are specific ways these rules should look at each grade level. You will see these rules posted throughout the school. Your child will be learning them during his or her first days at school and will be continuously exposed to them to maintain a positive school culture here at Green Acres.

Students will be rewarded with a “POGA Paw” ticket when observed displaying positive behaviors. Students can collect these and redeem them for prizes at our POGA Store.

Our focus is on teaching, reinforcing, reteaching mistakes, and encouraging positive behaviors. However, students who have trouble following school rules will receive a minor infraction slip. Four minor infractions equal a referral to the principal.

Dear Parent/Guardian:

Parents/Guardians are an essential part of PBIS implementation. We encourage parents to use the same expectations and rules the school teaches. This common language creates consistency and unified support for expected student behavior. At home you can ask your student:

  • To tell you the school rules.
  • To discuss examples of ways that he or she can use these rules in school, at home, and in the community.
  • How was your day? Tell me something positive that happened.

We look forward to working in partnership with you as we embrace PBIS here at Green Acres. If you have any questions, please contact the school, and a staff member will discuss the program in more depth with you.

Green Acres is the place to be!
